Many corporations start from humble if not meager beginnings; Messer Landscape, Inc. is certainly a prime example of this.  In March of 1980, with little more than a small riding lawn mower and a few tools, Buel Messer and his two sons, Charles and Michael, began offering lawn services to 15 homes in their neighborhood.

Since it’s founding, the company’s range of operation has increased tremendously.  From the six blocks, within which every original client lived, MLI’s products and services are now sought out by customers throughout the Virginias, north into Maryland and south into North Carolina and Tennessee.  In 1992, MLI opened a satellite branch in the lucrative Richmond market, thereby greatly expanding the company’s capacity. Meeting regional needs, the Staunton and Richmond divisions split becoming separate entities in June of 2001. The infrastructure of MLI has been in a constant state of evolution and adaptation since its birth almost 30 years ago. 

Initially the primary products provided were property maintenance services (mowing, pruning, leaf removal, etc.).  The demand for small-scale residential landscape installations created another market into which MLI quickly expanded into residential and commercial landscape installations. 

Messer Landscape, Inc.’s founder Buel Messer retired in February 2009 and his long
time Business Manager Linda Seigfried took over ownership and the day to day
running of the Corporation, making a MLI a 100% Woman Owned SwAM Certified
